Frequently Asked Questions

What are probiotics and how do they work in your system?

According to World Health Organization, probiotics are "live microorganisms which, when administered in adequate amounts, confer a health benefit on the host." They are the "friendly" bacteria that can help correct imbalances in our digestive system.

Probiotics work by crowding out the bad bacteria within the digestive system. The probiotics then attach to the intestinal wall where they increase the number of beneficial bacteria regulating and maintaining balance between the beneficial and harmful bacteria.

How do your probiotics stay live if they’re not refrigerated?

Adia’s drink mixes contain 3 probiotic strains: LactoSpore (Bacillus coagulans), Lactobacillus Bulgaricus and Lactobacillus Acidophilus while our chews contain Bacillus coagulans. No refrigeration is needed because the LactoSpore is in spore form and our Lactobacillus Bulgaricus and Lactobacillus Acidophilus are freeze dried.

Think of the spore as similar to a seed with a protective coating around it. Once exposed to water and the pH of your stomach, the spores will be activated and the bacteria will proliferate in the small intestine.

Without water probiotics cannot grow, but if dehydrated properly they will not be killed. Therefore freeze-drying is the best way to preserve them in a viable state. Once mixed with water, the freeze-dried bacteria will absorb water and nutrients and resume their normal living processes, dividing again as they did before freezing.

Your directions say, "drink promptly"- exactly what does that mean?

Once mixed, you should consume within 24 hours.

The probiotics we use are activated by water. Once they get wet, they will start to grow. Our products contain prebiotics, which are a food source for the probiotics, and the probiotics will last about 24 hours.

Can I make Adia drinks with hot water?

No, exposure to high heat will kill the probiotics. Enjoy Adia drinks over ice or at room temperature to get the full benefits our probiotics offer.

Are Adia Nutrition’s probiotics safe for kids to take?

Yes. Once a child is eating solid food, he / she can take probiotics.
